The annual "Giant Blue Whale Migration" brings hundreds of blue whales each spring & summer to the waters off Newport Beach. Over 1,100 whales were viewed last spring/summer 2017 of which 150 were the giant blue whales. Giant blue whales were once considered quite rare off southern California, but over the last ten years this has changed dramatically with hundreds of giant blue whales spotted each summer.
